Why Stella

The sky is for everyone.
Help us open the door.

Stella brings together astronomy tools, dark-sky places, thoughtful travel, and stories from the field. We want to make it easier for people to step outside, understand what they see, and care about the places that make it possible.

Building Stella together

Get to know the work.

We’re bringing together people across software, design, astronomy, editorial research, and community. Useful tools and carefully sourced information guide the work. Explore what’s here, then tell us what you would bring to it.

Engineering · Product & design · Astronomy

Make a night outside easier to plan.

The Tonight planner brings moonlight, darkness, nearby sky brightness, and cloud forecasts into one place. Clear explanations and accessible interfaces help people make sense of those signals.

Research · Engineering · Editorial

Help people find a darker sky.

Our places catalog connects observing sites with location facts, darkness information, and official sources. Useful research, careful data, and thoughtful maps make that information easier to use.

Explore the current work, then tell us which part you’d like to help improve. A short introduction or a link to work you’ve already done is enough.

Where you could contribute

A few things to know.

Are there specific roles open?

We’re starting with talent introductions. This page does not list confirmed vacancies. If there’s a fit, we’ll discuss the opportunity, working arrangement, and compensation with you directly.

What happens after I send my introduction?

Check your inbox and confirm your email using the private link. Once confirmed, your introduction is available to our recruiting reviewers, and you’ll receive an acknowledgment. If the email doesn’t arrive, check spam or request a new confirmation link.

Will everyone receive a personal reply?

The acknowledgment confirms that we received your verified introduction; it is not a hiring decision. We’ll contact you personally when there is a relevant next step to discuss. We can’t promise an individual reply or a review date for every introduction.

Can I reach out about freelance work or a collaboration?

Yes. Choose the working preference that fits you, share your skills, and tell us what you have in mind.

Do I need to be an astronomer?

No. We welcome curiosity and relevant experience from many disciplines. Use your introduction to show what you would bring to Stella.

What happens to my details?

Stella uses your details to review and respond to your interest. Your introduction is not published. Use a private email link to update your introductions, change future-opportunity contact, withdraw, or delete your submissions. For help, email hello@stellastargazing.com. Read our privacy notice.
